Pink Cup of Art

Last night we had family night. My wife's sister came over and we played family Cranium.2001, 2002, 2003, 2006 Game of the year.

It was fun, we played boys against the girls. Although the boys had a commanding lead we lost because I could not help my middle son draw 'bubble gum' .

After that I helped my oldest son pack for a campout with my Dad on Wednesday.

Today at work was just like yesterday. Our online ordering system has a bug and I cannot add any new content. So while I am waiting I did some surfing....

As a kid in the 70's I loved the Rocky movies. I'm not really sure why. Boxing was not my thing, maybe it was the underdog story but I was really young so I don't remember. In the 80's Rocky was more of a joke. His fights were with Mr. T and some Russian/commie guy. The last Rocky movie came out in the 90's. He fought some guy with Aids. Now it's the 00's, Rocky is back.

The trailer looks pretty good. Back to the underdog story. The current Champ is matched up against Rocky in a video game. In the Game Rocky wins. Now the Champ wants a real life rematch. Yo Adrienne!!!!!

I have been blogging about the World Cup since the U.S.A. was sorely beaten. Yesterday I mentioned that Italy won and there was a head-butting incident.

Were it not for this happening the World Cup would be out of everyone's mind for the next four years.

Now there is a lame game that puts you into the action.

Check it out here.

A while ago I blogged about the 'Calvin and Hobbes' directory of every comic strip ever made. Today I came across this list of the '25 Great Calvin & Hobbes Strips'. One of my favorite themes made it.

Want to by a Rubber band Machine gun? Well this is actually a full size Gatling Gun.

This gun is made out of poplar wood and stands 55" high and is 46" long. Each of the twelve rotating barrels stretches twelve 6" rubber band to a 25" length, for a total of 144 bands when fully loaded.  A continuous stream of rubber bands is achieved by pulling the trigger while simultaneously cranking the handle as quickly or slowly as possible. The tripod stand has a wide 30" diameter base and allows the gun to be turned in a 360-degree circle, thus making it easy to follow a moving target.

I want one!

I read an article today I thought my brother would enjoy.

It was titled 'The Boomerang generation'

Boomerang Generation is a term occasionally used to describe the current generation of young adults in contemporary western culture, born approximately between 1981 and 1986.

Usually an article title ''50 best robots ever" would make me drool. It did in this case too, only because I fell asleep while reading it.

Here is a brief synopsis of the count down.

03. SPIRIT AND OPPORTUNITY
19. R2-D2 and C-3PO -  'the Abbott and Costello of space'
34. OPTIMUS PRIME

First, let me give them credit for using a list that combines fictional robots with real robots. After all I don't think one could exist without the other. Kind of like the chicken and the egg. But all credit aside, they got it all wrong. And where is Rosie? IF they felt compelled to put an actual robot on top of the list why not one that has traveled further than any other? The Mars rovers would get my vote. but they don't hold a candle to good old R2.

[BTW, I was just kidding............ I don't sleep at work]

I came across this photographer today.

"Master landscape photographer James Randklev has diligently pursued his unique portrayals of nature for 30 years. He is recognized as one of Americas finest photographers. After a career in biological science and medicine, he turned to photography concentrating on landscapes as his subject and color as his medium. Photographing primarily with large format cameras Randklev's explorations have led him to travel throughout America. The richness and subtlety of his images, as well as his unique vision to find and capture vivid patterns of color and forms, has earned him the recognition and esteem of both his peers and publishers."

His photographs speak for themselves. [I would only add that the above photo of waving grain was taken in Utah].

[Yellowstone]

I've decided I am going to take this up. Send me some money so I can buy a good camera.

I found a cool game today called 'Stickman Madness'.

It is a cool little first person shooter. Make sure to reload your gun!!!

These Quick Change Artists have talent. This is worth watching, although I 'm not sure about the rest of the show.

Syd Barrett (1946-2006)

Founding frontman and songwriter for Pink Floyd dead at 60. I love Pink Floyd, although I never got that 'Wizard of Oz' thing. Laser Floyd at the Hansen Planetarium never did it for me either. But nothing could to 'The Wall' at night in the middle of no where.

Good bye Syd, Thanks for the memories. Have fun learning to fly.

Picture Napoleon Taking World Cup

This weekend was a blur. I worked in the basement again. I'm beginning to feel like a troll. I got a good nap on Sunday, but it was during the World Cup final. More on that later.

I think I may run out of gas on the way home today. My gas gage is wrong and when it says half a tank it means empty. I hope I can make it to Blair's.

Last night my wife and I watched 'Failure to Launch'. I liked it, except for Terry Brandshaw's butt. I didn't need that imprinted into my brain.

Work today was slow, our president is on vacation this week. I had time for a little surfing......

I read a story last week about when they were inspecting the space shuttle for any damage from take-off they found some bird-poop on the right wing.

I hate it when the birds target my truck, but surviving the heat generated by leaving the atmosphere is impressive. I'm glad those birds don't live around here.

I saw this really cool picture. Can you tell what it is?

This is a Stereomicroscopy with epi-ring illumination image of  Velcro being pulled apart (94x) by Tracy E. Anderson.
------------------

Today I learned that on the day of my birth the number 1 single was: Mungo Jerry - 'Baby Jump' and the number 1 album was: Simon & Garfunkel - 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'.

Leave a comment and let me know what the hits were on your birthday.

Jacek Yerka is a Polish artist born in 1952.

Today I found an online gallery of some of his work. It's worth checking out.

This past weekend was the Second Annual Napoleon Dynamite Festival in Preston, Idaho.

I was in my basement and did not attend, but I may go next year. I would love to compete in the tater tot eating contest or sing along with the 'happy hands' club.

[this photo is from the Idaho statesman].

"Patrick Zook signs an autograph for a 'Napoleon Dynamite' fan in the dojo he taught martial arts in for 10 years in downtown Preston. The 'Rex Kwan Do' character was loosely based on Zook and the scenes were filmed in the dojo."

"Kim Ward of Downey, ID gets his picture taken with Preston farmer Dale Critchlow who played Lyle in 'Napoleon Dynamite'.

I had to post this along with the story.

I tried to watch the Final game of the World Cup.

but it was the first time I have been home at noon on Sunday for two months. I fell asleep after the score was tied and woke up after the head-butt and the game was over.

I was cheering for Italy to win. I'm glad they pulled it out. I found this T-Shirt I want to wear.

-------------------

I watched this report from John Stossel. It is called 'Stupid in America'. It is long, but gives a great overview of the problems we are facing right now, especially in Ogden.

That's all for today.

Pirates Ahoy

Well it is 12:07 and do you know where I am. Still at work!!!

It seems like everyone waits to give me items untill 11:50 on Friday when I get to leave at Noon.

Oh well, I have time to surf while they were biding their time.....

I found it interesting that Dr. Stephen Hawkings is a websurfer. He has posted and interesting question on Yahoo Answers.

Would you like a shot of answering his question?
-----------------

I found two games today. The first, 'Fancy Pants',  is pretty cool.

The second, 'The Maze', is pretty cruel.

-------------------------

Today was the 'running of the bulls' in Petaloma Spain. This activity lands on people's 'things to do before I die' lists.

What people don't realize is that this activity needs to be toward the end of the list since you may die trying it. To each his own.
-------------

I have two photos to wrap up todays post. The first is from the Space Shuttle.

I think this was during the inspection of the ship after they docked with the space station yesterday.

The second picture is of a cave.

There are more where that came from.
----------------

No videos today, sorry about the maze. Have a great weekend.

Picture a Lost road rainbow to Noah's Ark

I'm back once again.

Last night we went to visit my new neighbor. She lives on the corner across the street from my home. She lives there with her daughter. They moved here from San Jose. Her husband died from Leukemia in January of 2005. While we were at the church my fam took cookie over to their house. This tag team was not planned but I'm glad we got to meet.

Work is slow this time of year, so I went surfing....

I have said before that my wife and I have started watching 'Lost'. Last night we sat down to watch it but I fell asleep. Today I found this cool map.

The above image is just part of the map. There were a few spoilers on it but I have seen some of the second season anyway. If you would like to see the whole map you can check it out here.
--------------

Lately I have been seeing these clips form a Japanese game show. Apparently the show takes unsuspecting people and puts them in publicly humiliating circumstances. I admit they made me chuckle a little. I also promised I'd show them yesterday.

I came across this site called 'The Birds of Corpus Christi'. "A tribute to our avian friends. Juan Bahamon, a nature photographer, shares his artistic pictures of the most common birds found in the Coastal Bend area of Texas."

This is an infield home run for me. The Images are great, there are lots of eagles and they are from Texas. My father-in-law would be proud.
----------------

I came across another photograph site today called 'A Thousand and One'. You know the saying about a picture being worth 1000 words.

This site posts pictures worth at least 1001 words.

I wish this site had a rss feed. There are some of the most beautiful and most famous pictures in history.
----------------

I don't want this blog to turn into an photoblog but I wanted to share this images of a road in Bolivia.

It tells its own story. As to the other pictures you can find here.
-------------

There have been almost a dozen articles in recent months about archeologists looking for remains of Noah's Ark. Today I saw one from National Geographic that included 'evidence'.

This image shows what look like wood and the ridge in Iran where is was found. The story of Noah's ark is told in three major world religions; Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. I'm not saying this is the real deal, but I think it is interesting that science is trying to prove what religions have known for thousands of years.
--------------------------

I found a game called 'Chain Reaction'.

I played a game similar to this a few months ago. It is mildly addicting.

Well that's it for now.

I have had nearly 200 people visit this blog in the last two weeks. Either my brother is spending a lot of time here or there are others who visit. Let me know who you are or at least post your high score.
