Lists, favorites and photos

Hello, welcome back.

The gym was not that great. I was there for an hour and a half and I only did one rep on one machine. We have started painting the room in the basement. We are trying to ease the congestion in the bedrooms upstairs. My son wanted BYU blue so we have painted it on one wall and are doing the rest BYU tan and the ceiling and trim will be [BYU] white. I think I will be comfortable with the colors.

I also attend community council meeting this week. I'm not sure I have blogged about this before but for the last four years I have been a member at the elementary school. The basic function of the council is to discuss and approve spending of land trust funds. I was chair two years ago and asked to attend a meeting in Park City about how these committees should function and how effective they are in the schools. After that I realized that we were not running the council correctly. I tried at the beginning of last year to add more parents for better representation and input. I also suggested that the funds be spent on school needs and not wishes. Both of these ideas were shot down by the principal.

Anyway, at this weeks meeting the new principal suggested that we add more parents to the committee. I felt vindicated.

It's high tide. Time to surf....

I have seen several articles and TV news stories about the 'Top 100 most endangered species'. Most of the articles have included a picture of a long beaked echidnaay.

This is a cute/funny looking animal that easily peaks your interest in trying to save these animals.

Here is the list:
10. Sumatran rabbit
9. Northern hairy-nosed wombat
8. Bactrian camel
7. Black rhinoceros
6. Sumatran rhinoceros
5. Hispaniolan solenodon
4. Cuban solenodon
3. Riverine rabbit
2. Long-beaked echidna
1. Yangtze River dolphin

There are many unique animals on this list. The Yangtze Dolphin (above) is a fresh water dolphin that swims in the Yangtze River in China. They have not been seen in quite a while as are feared to already be extinct.

But did you notice that there are two species of rabbits on the list? Knowing the reputation of the breeding habits of rabbits I found this hard to believe. However, both varieties are endangered because of loss of habitat and human intrusion. In fact the Sumatran rabbit was thought to have been extinct since 1930 until one was accidently photographed but a camera trap in 1998.

This was an interesting read.

I came a cross an article on CNN.com called 'The 6 most annoying things kids say'. This seemed promising. Maybe the article was about new slang words or misused words. Maybe it's mean things they say to each other. So I clicked and it is a parenting article listing six annoying things kids say.

Here's the list:
6. "Mine!"
5. "It's not fair."
4. "You're not the boss of me."
3. "I want it now!"
2. "You never let me do anything."
1. "I don't like you."

Wow, are those annoying? Maybe if it's a three-year-old and your the unmarried auntie. So I decided to make my own list of 'The top ten most annoying things my kids said in the last 24 hours'.

Here's my list:
10. "because it's stupid and I don't like it"
9. "I don't want to go to bed"
8. "I don't want to wake up"
7. "Mom let's us do it when she's here"
6. "Why do I have to?"
5. "You're the worst dad ever"
4. "I did it/got it at grandma's house"
3. "I'm running away...to grandma's"
2. "It wasn't me, it must have been the baby"
1. "Dad let's me do it when you're not here"

[No this is not my son]

I later found this video and thought it related to this topic in a humorous way.

Yesterday I read an article about Smallville and how last night episode would feature a newly formed Justice League. I have never watched this show and I don't think I will start but I have to admit the idea is pretty cool.

[Left to Right: The Flash, Green Arrow, Superman, Aquaman and Cyborg.]

Here is the episode synopsis:
The Green Arrow sends out for reinforcements and The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg return to Smallville to help him take down LuthorCorp's secret lab.
During a break-in at the LuthorCorp facility, The Flash is captured and tortured by Lex and Clark sets off to rescue him but is felled by meteor rock. An alarmed Chloe goes to Green Arrow for help and the newly formed "justice league" springs into action to rescue Clark and The Flash.

Yes I watched it with my kids. Not it did not keep their attention. No I don't think I would watch again.

Here is a follow-up to my last post about the commercial during the Golden Globes with Orville 'Zombie' Redenbacher. Here is the ad from YouTube.

I came across another website today called Steve Carter music and photography. Steve has a lot of great pics and many different galleries.

Size and majesty

delicate form

Sharp contrast

I feel like I have had the opportunity to take all of these pictures but none would have turned out as good as these.

Steve also has links for 'photo a day for a year' and 'photo of the month'. Check them out.
-------------

I also saw some photographs on outdoor-photos.com from photographer: Aleksey Puchkov from Sevastopol, Crimea, Ukraine.

Most of his picture are in wide format. I love his use of colors and topics.

A search for him on google leads to many different collections from stock photography to photographic art.

There is something about these pictures that draw me in. The colors stand out and the landscapes are out of my world.

I also came across a list of the '13 Photographs That Changed the World'.

This is a great article, well researched and backed up. A textbook of photography. I would check it out and the rest of Neatorama too.

The article above was written by Ransom Riggs for the Jan - Feb 2007 issue of mental_floss magazine, featured on Neatorama in partnership with mental_floss.
