Lists inside of lists

Well this is blog #80. I think I have the hang of this now. I had 85 views yesterday and my readership seems to be growing. I would like to hear from you [the readers]  more often. Communication is hard to do when it is one way. I think I have made some pretty cool blogs but my brother commented on one he thought was 'the best so far' and to me that has become the standard I try to meet. That was #15 or something so I hope I didn't peak early and everything else has been sub-par. I really do want to know what you think. Unlike the newspaper or TV a blog can be interactive.

Today is my youngest son's birthday. We went to McDonalds for his 'friend party' and we will be having homemade pizza tonight for his 'family party'. He is turning four and I personally think this is the best age for birthdays. This morning when I got to work I put together a new bike for him. I'm excited just to see him open his presents.

The office is crazy and I have been swamped with overflow work others can't seem to get done. Hopefully when the server has problems or our software crashes and it requires another 24 hour shift someone else can pick up my overflow work. [Sorry, I know office sarcasm is not what this blog is about.]

I did manage to surf [while doing other people work]....
-------------------

I call todays blog lists within lists because and odd thing happened. I found myself reading some list somebody put together and found an accompanying list that was even better. The first example of this was from earvolution.com.

I admit that in my life I have memorized and can sing a number of TV show theme songs. Today I came across a list of  the 'Top 10 TV Theme Songs With Outstanding Guitar Work'. This made me think of my brothers strumming different tunes in the basement of my parents house. So for them I post the list:

10. Simon & Simon
9. The A-Team
8. The Ren and Stimpy Show
7. Three's Company
6. South Park
5. Chico and the Man
4. Batman
3. Beverly Hill 90210
2. Law & Order
1. Barney Miller

I'm sure my brothers and other guitarists can pick out the 'guitar work' in these songs but some of them I can't remember a guitar in them at all.

While I was there I came across an ever better list called the 'Top Ten Greatest Guitar Solos'.

10. 'Hot for Teacher' - Eddie Van Halen
9. 'Texas Flood' - Stevie Ray Vaughan
8. 'Crazy Train' - Randy Rhoads
7. 'Hotel California' - Don Felder & Joe Walsh
6. 'Free Bird' - Allen Collins & Gary Rossington
5. 'All Along the Watchtower' - Jimi Hendrix
4. 'Stairway to Heaven' - Jimmy Page
3. 'Sultans of Swing' - Mark Knopfler
2. 'Comfortably Numb' - David Gilmour
1. 'Machine Gun' - Jimi Hendrix

I have actually heard the guitar in every one of these songs, except for 'Machine Gun'. I downloaded it today and I personally don't think I was missing much. I appreciate Jimi Hendrix I just like 'All Along the Watchtower' much, much, much more.

I was reading 'The Geek Zine' when I saw this post about 'The 20 Scariest Horror Movie Killers'. I thought, "It's Halloween, what the heck". Here's the list.

10. Alien
9. Michael Myers (Halloween)
8. Damien Thorn (The Omen)
7. Jaws
6. The Tall Man (Phantasm)
5. Jason Voorhees (Friday The 13Th)
4. Pinhead (Hellraiser)
3. Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre)
2. Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare On Elm St)
1. Hannibal Lecter (Silence Of The Lambs)

As you may know, I rarely agree with these lists. This list panders to the thrasher movies that plagued my teens. Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, and Michael Myers are all really the same. The only differences are their methods of murder and abilities to overcome their own destruction. You could really throw Jaws into the crowd too except the original movie was actually worth seeing. You didn't even see Jaws until the last half hour of the movie.

As I was looking over this list it included two other even better lists. The first is fact based. It looks at the 'Body Count Rankings' of horror movie villains:

1. Aliens - 201 kills
2. Jason Voorhees - 125 kills
3. Jack Griffin (The Invisible Man) - 122 kills
4. Killer Klowns From Outer Space - 120 kills
5. Michael Myers - 81 kills
6. The Tall Man - 79 kills
7. Carrie White - 76 kills
8. Lord Crumb & His Army (Bad Taste) - 75 kills
9. The Knoxes (Natural Born Killers) - 74 kills
10. Children of the Corn - 72 kills

This list show that the more blood and guts does not mean the better the movie. I don't like horror movie for the body counts but I like this list because it is not subjective.

The other bonus list was of the 'Top 10 Classic Monsters'. These guys are the real deal! These movies can still scare my socks off while avoiding the blood and guts or body counts. [I'm not sure if 'body count' #3 is the same movie as 'classic monster' #6  but I think I will watch #6 below again to find out!]

10. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
9. Creature of the Black Lagoon
8. The Mummy
7. The Wolf Man
6. The Invisible Man
5. King Kong
4. Nosferatu
3. Frankenstein Monster
2. Dracula
1. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

I'd take most of the classics over the slashers any day!

The last list within a list I found was in an article about the 'New Seven Wonders of the World'. Apparently, only one of the ancient wonders of the world still survives -- now history lovers are being invited to choose a new list of seven.

The 21 finalists for the New Seven Wonders of the World, alphabetically:

1 Acropolis, Athens, Greece
2 Alhambra, Granada, Spain
3 Angkor Wat temple, Cambodia
4 Chichen Itza Aztec site, Yucatan, Mexico
5 Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
6 Colosseum, Rome
7 Easter Island Statues, Chile
8 Eiffel Tower, Paris
9 Great Wall, China
10 Hagia Sophia church, Istanbul, Turkey
11 Kyomizu Temple, Kyoto, Japan
12 Kremlin/St.Basil's, Moscow13 Machu Picchu, Peru
14 Neuschwanstein Castle, Fussen, Germany
15 Petra ancient city, Jordan
16 Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
17 Statue of Liberty, New York
18 Stonehenge, Amesbury, United Kingdom
19 Sydney Opera House, Australia
20 Taj Mahal, Agra, India
21 Timbuktu city, Mali

My personal favorite of the 21 is Petra, Jordan.

For years I thought this was just a set from 'Indiana Jones and the Final Crusade'. Later I found out this was a real place [minus the crusader and holy grail].

I always thought that the Great Wall of China was on the original list. So naturally I think it should be on the new list.

While I was reading this list I came across another list, that also answered the question of what were, the 'Seven Wonders of the Ancient World'.

The following list is of the Seven Wonders followed by how they were destroyed:
1. Great Pyramid of Giza - still standing
2. Hanging Gardens of Babylon - earthquake
3. Temple of Artemis at Ephesus - fire
4. Statue of Zeus at Olympia - fire
5. Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus - earthquake
6. Colossus of Rhodes - earthquake
7. Lighthouse of Alexandria - earthquake

Hmmmm! I learn when I blog!
--------------------

I like to visit photoblogs. I have blogged before about 'joe's nyc' photoblog. Today he has this great photo of the 'Brooklyn Bridge'.

Classic and modern at the same time. This may not be one of the 'Seven Wonders' but I would still like to see it for myself.
-----------------

Going from learning to burning time I found this game called 'Galactic Gravity Golf'.

[I was so good I finished the game and got the highest score!]
-------------------------

I'm not sure this qualifies as a game or not but it is certainly fun. 'Bone Idol' is a kind of 'cyber doll'.

Should I call this Idol 'Clav-ickle Ache-n', 'Burry Underground' or 'Bo-o Bice-ept'.
[Those were the best American Idol names as skeleton names I could come up with.]
-----------------------

When I saw the next headline I thought, 'Oh great - more bad news'. 'World's pollution hotspots mapped'

The silver lining is that the 'Big Bad United States' is not on the map.
------------------

I know I was talking about Halloween costumes last month. Despite my repeated warning I did not follow my own advice. I have waited until now to find a costume.

Flaming Carrot? NO!!!!

Um, NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Mime stuck in a 'little trees'? NO!!!

Human Ping Pong? NOT EVEN!! [Although the geek factor is pretty high with this one. hmmmm]

The search is still on!
------------

That's all for today.
