two armed squirrels

There in one unique feature to the lot our house is on. The utility pole in our backyard has a large transformer and the lines feed seven homes from the same pole. Since we have lived here there have been squirrels in the tree in my backyard and they use the power lines from the pole to "commute" to every home and tree in the area.

The squirrels become very territorial. Every once and a while the squirrels chase one another or bark at us when we are in the backyard. Last night, I was grilling some steak and the little buggers started barking/chirping at me. I threw a rock at one of them and he climbed on top of the transformer to continue his barking. I went into the house and heard a large bang. It sounded like a shotgun or m80 had exploded in the backyard. The power went out at the same time.

Poor little guy. His whiskers were all singed and he smelled a little over cooked .

This is the second squirrel this week and the eighth in six years.

I have to scoop them into the garbage as soon as possible or the neighbors little dogs come and try to eat them and tear them apart.

Yesterday I commented about the little boy in China who was born with three arms. Today he had one of them removed. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I would not want people to put him down for his deformity, but I also would have liked to see the cool things he could have done.

A week before school was out I went on an overnight campout in Taylor's Canyon above my home.

It was my son's first outing with his his Boy Scout patrol. We had a lot of fun. We camped below the spring in the canyon and the boys hiked to Malan's Peak. There is some develpoment planned for this area. I also have mixed feelings about this. But the reason this is in this blog is, while camping I got into a conversation with one of the boys about a new dinosaur skull they found that looks like a dragons head. In fact they named it 'Dracorex hogwartsia' after Draco Malfoy the boy wizard from Harry Potter's school Hogwarts.

I told him I would find the link and send it to him. I came across the story by accident again today. Since I talked about it I thought I could also blog about it.

I also saw this image today about the world largest digging machine. It is mobile and the image allows you to see its size as well as its ability to move.

I found this at http://www.swapmeetdave.com/Humor/Workshop/Trencher.htm

When I first saw it, I was reminded of that battle-bots show from the BBC.
